When you want to ask for speedy-delete of an empty category, best practice is to mark it with either:

{{SD|C2}} ("unuseful empty category") if it would be OK to re-create it in the future, given that appropriate content becomes available

{{SD|C1}} ("improperly named category") if it is an inappropriate category name that should not be reused (e.g. typos).

"C1" and "C2" come from Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion. You could also use of the following:

{{badname|current category name}}

{{speedy|empty, misspelled category name}}

The above templates (SD, speedy, Badname) expand to full speedy deletion requests.
In particular, this is better practice than just blanking the category page. Blanked categories end up on Special:UncategorizedCategories, which is largely handled by non-admins who cannot delete the categories in question.

Categorizing music by year

Hallo, could you help in the discussione started here https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Categories_for_discussion/2025/03/Category:Music_in_Lombardy_by_year with a group of Wikipedians opposing categories for music by year, saying it gives birth to category that are too small and not meaningful? They seem not to grasp what a chronology is... It was all started by one person, who then called a group of people sharing his point of view. MetaCat vs. CatCat

Hi, Allforrous. I noticed that you put the {{MetaCat}} template on some articles for characters by name. Those are not metacats because the subcats don't group characters with the same name. Therefore I changed the MetaCat templates to CatCat templates.

The "by name" categories can be tricky when deciding whether to use MetaCat or CatCat. Sometimes they're metacats, sometimes they're not. It depends on what's in the subcats. Most categories of people or characters by name are not metacats. That's because each subcat is for just one individual. An example of a by-name category that is a metacat is Category:Hotels by name. Each subcat there is for all hotels with the indicated name. For example, two of the subcats are Category:Grand Hotels and Category:Hotels named Plaza. In each case, multiple hotels with the same are grouped in a subcat.
